Popular late-night classes brought back for winter semester

Published: 6/18/2010

Due to their popularity, late-evening classes beginning at 8 p.m. or later -- first offered in Fall 2010 -- are available in the Winter 2011 schedule of classes. The winter late-evening courses include:

Art 105 Basic Drawing

COM 103 Fundamentals of Speech

ENG 101 English Composition 1

ENG 102 English Composition 2

HIST 134 Ancient World

HUM 106 Introduction to Art and Music

MATH 053 Beginning Alebra

MATH 113 Intermediate Algebra

MUSIC 172 Music Technology 2

PYSCH 153 Human Relations

PSYCH 201 Introductory Psychology

The move toward late-night classes is a response to growing demand and an acknowledgment of diversity among learners. “We know that some people thrive at night,” said Monica Sullivan, Vice President of Instruction. “That is when they are most energized and creative. For others, the late evening might not be their first choice but it might be the only way they can fit the class into their schedule. These courses are an attempt to meet the needs of more learners.”

College officials also hope that the late-evening format will maximize usage of classroom space during a time when enrollments continue to grow. Schoolcraft’s credit headcounts have grown 35 percent in eight years; the college now enrolls approximately 13,000 students in credit courses in both the fall and winter semesters.
