LIVONIA, MI— Schoolcraft College’s Continuing Education and Professional Development department will be hosting a free Career Workshop for those interested in learning more about becoming a Professional Pharmacy Technician. The workshop will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.

During this workshop, which is open to the public and is intended for individuals who may be interested in transitioning into a new career, attendees will be able to meet with the instructor to review class offerings, course curriculum and certification requirements. The workshop will be held in Room 160 of the Biomedical Technology Center on Schoolcraft’s main campus in Livonia.

The increased number in the middle-aged and elderly populations has generated a large demand for more Pharmacy Technicians. The outlook for Pharmacy Technicians is very good as the growth rate between 2009-2016 is expected to be around 18.12% with hospitals and merchant wholesalers anticipating the biggest demand. According to EMSI (Economic Modeling Specialists), the average earnings in Michigan are around $14.25 per hour. “We have seen remarkable success from previous workshops as the interest in the pharmaceutical field continues to grow.  Plus, this certificate program is beneficial to displaced workers as the program is eligible for MI Works! funding through the No Worker Left Behind initiative,” said Leslie Petty, Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development.

For more information on this workshop or other career transition opportunities, contact the Continuing Education and Professional Development department at 734-462-4448 or go to www.schoolcraft.edu/cepd.
