Free concert features Jazz Ensemble and Synthesizer Ensemble

LIVONIA, MI—On Monday, April 27, Schoolcraft College will host a free concert featuring the college’s renowned Jazz and Synthesizer Ensembles. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the VisTaTech Center on the college’s main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Riccardo Selva, will perform classic, contemporary and original musical jazz selections. The repertoire includes works by Chick Corea, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington and a special arrangement by Jazz Ensemble trombonist Ron Toth.

The Synthesizer Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Barton Polot, will be performing a very eclectic repertoire, including a traditional piece by Mozart, electronic jazz pieces and an original student composition. In addition, Kevin Saunderson, one of the innovators and creators of techno music, will conduct the Synthesizer Ensemble, which will be performing one of Saunderson’s 1980s hits, “Rock to the Beat.” Saunderson has been serving as artist-in-residence with the ensemble this semester.

The concert is free. Donations are gratefully accepted and will be used to fund student scholarships and programs.
