Graphic Novel, Perseopolis, is focus of bookclub’s discussions in January
LIVONIA—Pageturners, the student and faculty member bookclub hosted by Schoolcraft College, has selected Perseopolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi, for its January discussions. Perseopolis provides a unique opportunity for student, staff and faculty to explore the special qualities of a graphic novel while enjoying a great story. Persepolis is a wise, funny, and heartbreaking memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. In powerful black-and-white comic strip images, Satrapi tells the story of her life in Tehran from ages six to fourteen; years that saw the overthrow of the Shah’s regime, the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, and the devastating effects of war with Iraq.
The public is welcome to join one or all the of the Pageturners bookclub discussion sessions. Discussions will be held in the Liberal Arts Building on the college’s main campus in Livonia in room L105 on Monday, January 26 at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, January 27 at 1:30 p.m. A discussion at the Radcliff Center in Garden City will be Thursday, January 29 at 6:30 p.m. in room RC 645.
