The music of Brahms to be featured in concert

Fans of classical music, especially the compositions of Johannes Brahms, are in for a treat when pianist John Ellis and violinist Yehonatan M. Berick perform on Friday, April 18.

Ellis and Berick will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Presentation Room of the VisTaTech Center, located on the Livonia campus of Schoolcraft College. The evening’s selections include Sonata No. 1 in G Major, Op. 78; Sonata No. 2 in A Minor, Op. 100; and Sonata No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 108. Tickets for the performance are $20 and include a reception following the concert. Tickets can be purchased by calling 734-462-4403 or online at www.schoolcraft.edu/foundation/events.

A prizewinner at the 1993 Naumburg competition and a recipient of the 1996-97 Prix Opus, Yehonatan Berick is in high demand internationally as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. His busy concert schedule has already taken him throughout North America, Europe and Israel.

Classical music enthusiasts throughout the United States, Finland and Germany have enjoyed the talents of John Ellis’ piano performances as a soloist, lecture-recitalist and collaborative artist for years.

The concert is sponsored by the Schoolcraft College Foundation and the Schoolcraft College Music Department. This concert is the third in this year’s new Evening Concert Series launched by Schoolcraft College this past fall. The college has sponsored a very successful monthly noontime concert series for several years. As awareness of the wonderful venue the Presentation Room is for performances of this type has grown amongst both artists and patrons of the arts, the college has responded by adding even more concerts this year. The final concert in the Evening Concert Series will feature pianist Angela Chang on May 9.

Schoolcraft College is a public two-year college, offering classes at the Livonia campus, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads, at the Radcliff Center in Garden City and online at schoolcraft.edu.
