Schoolcraft Alumni to be Polled

Published: 6/19/2007

Approximately 28,000 Schoolcraft College alumni will find a survey in their mailboxes in the later part of June asking what services the college can provide for them, and how they would like to maintain their ties with Schoolcraft. The survey officially launches the Schoolcraft Alumni and Friends Program.

The 28,000 individuals are graduates or certificate holders of Schoolcraft programs since the college opened in 1964 and who live in the southeastern Michigan area. The total number of former Schoolcraft students is more than 300,000 and Schoolcraft considers any former student with an identification number an alum.

“The purpose of the Alumni and Friends Program is to strengthen and maintain the ties between the college and its alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends,” said John Walsh, executive director of development and governmental relations. “Our alumni tell us there is no place like Schoolcraft College. They tell us their Schoolcraft experience changed their lives, and that for many it was a turning point in the growth and development of their careers.”

Walsh said the college believes it has a responsibility to its alumni to continue nurturing their personal growth, recognizing their accomplishments, and creating opportunities for them to share in the college’s growth. This could be through such options as involvement in college activities, mentoring students or offering student internships.

The survey, which can be completed in two minutes, is also available on the college Web site, on the Alumni and Friends homepage. Victoria Rexius, alumni and annual fund contractor, said she encourages people to use the electronic version when possible. For more information or to volunteer to be part of a focus group contact Rexius at vrexius@schoolcraft.edu or at 734-462-4400, ext. 5758.

Schoolcraft College is a public two-year college, offering classes at the Livonia campus on Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile roads, at the Radcliff Center in Garden City and online.
