Schoolcraft Expo Spotlights Public Safety Careers

Explore the possibility of a career in public safety and examine first-hand police and fire vehicles and displays at Schoolcraft College’s Public Safety Career Expo. The Expo takes place Wednesday, March 21, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Schoolcraft College’s Radcliff Center in Garden City.

Potential employers will be on hand to accept resumes and answer questions about their programs. Those attending include representatives of police, fire and rescue units, the Wayne County Airport Authority, the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad, commercial enterprises, sheriff departments and colleges and universities.

Participants also include the U.S. Probation, Marshal and Secret Service, Henry Ford Hospital security, Huron Valley Ambulance service and the Schoolcraft College Fire and Police academies.

For job seekers interested in a public safety career, Expo organizers suggest bringing 30 to 40 resumes to the event.

Visitors can watch how Michigan State Police from the Northville Post bomb squad use a robot to detect bombs. An exhibit from the Northville Forensic Lab will demonstrate how scientists interpret evidence in solving cases and include information on becoming a forensic scientist. The Garden City Fire Department will bring a representative of its K-Nine unit.

Visitors also can examine a variety of public safety vehicles including a U.S. Army Hummer H3, police and sheriff patrol cars, a Northville Township Police D.A.R.E. truck and a Michigan State Police crime scene trailer.

Schoolcraft College is a public two-year college, offering classes at the Livonia campus on Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile roads, the Radcliff Center in Garden City and online.
