On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, Schoolcraft College is hosting a one-hour informational session on grief and loss in the McDowell Center on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
During the session participants will learn how grief can affect a person's physical and emotional well-being and a student's academic success. In additional, the staff of the college's Counseling Department will share information about the resources that are available for those struggling with grief or personal loss.
Some of the symptoms those who are suffering might exhibit include: trouble sleeping, changes in appetite, difficulty concentrating, changes in habits or activities (i.e. no longer enjoying or participating in hobbies), spending a great deal of time alone, or keeping oneself overly busy and not thinking about the loss and grief being experienced. This information session is free and open to the public.
In addition to the Schoolcraft College Counseling Department, other sponsors include the Omnicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, SCcares initiative, and Pageturners.
For more information about this event or other counseling resources, students can call 734-462-4469.
