Present Moment Meditation class can help relieve stress in 2012

Published: 1/20/2012

Were you one of the many people who resolved to reduce stress in your life in 2012? Are you still looking for ways to succeed at your resolution to be more positive or achieve goals that previously went unmet?  If so, then meditation may be the answer.  According to an article in Nations Business, stress can be linked to the numerous illnesses including: hypertension, heart attacks, diabetes, asthma, chronic pain, allergies, headache, backache, various skins disorders, cancer, and a weakened immune system.  In addition to the health factors, stress also affects your relationships, both personal and professional, and could be limiting your own achievements.
The interesting thing about resolutions is they themselves can sometimes be a source of stress.  One of the tricks to making resolutions that really work is setting achievable (more general) goals as opposed to actual tasks.  This is where Present Moment Meditation can help.
Schoolcraft College will be offering mediation classes this winter semester to help individuals who are looking for help and guidance in achieving a sense of calm and control.  Present Moment Meditation will give students a lighthearted, practical approach that makes meditation inviting and beneficial for everyone. There are two four-week long sessions being offered. The first session starts Monday, January 30 (CES0966/ Sec. 917001) and the second class section starts Monday, March 19 (CES0966/ Sec. 917002). Class sessions are held from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on the college’s main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
Each meeting includes two meditations, a short presentation on topics relating to meditation and stress reduction, discussion and Question and Answer time.  Attendees will see positive results in every area of their daily life—work, family, home, health, relationships, personal goals, and more. Registration is currently underway.  For more information on the mediation classes or Schoolcraft’s Continuing Education and Professional Development program, visit www.schoolcraft.edu/cepd  or call 734-462-4448.
Schoolcraft College is a public two-year college, offering classes at the Livonia campus, at the Radcliff Center in Garden City, and online at www.schoolcraft.edu.              ###
