Schoolcraft Hosts Tulsa Race Riot Expert
For 16 hours on May 31, 1921, mobs of white rioters threatened and then set fire to a 34-block black neighborhood of businesses and houses in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 was one of the worst civil disorders in U.S. history, leaving an estimated 10,000 homeless, 800 hospitalized and 300 or more dead.
Empty Bowl Raises Funds for the Hungry
Schoolcraft College’s Empty Bowl Project raises funds for St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen to help feed the hungry in Detroit. Each year, students in ceramics classes donate bowls and other pieces to the project. Anyone who purchases a bowl receives a bowl of soup, a piece of bread and a cup of water, a basic meal but still more than many people enjoy on a daily basis.
Schoolcraft Offers Course on Insurance Ethics
Licensed insurance professionals can fulfill their state mandated ethics requirement at the one-day seminar Ethics for Insurance Professionals at Schoolcraft College. Seminar topics will include ethical dilemmas, the difference between ethical and moral decisions and case studies.
American Harvest Opens for Dinner with New Menu
The very best in Michigan and American comfort foods will grace the menu when Schoolcraft College’s American Harvest Restaurant opens for dinner on October 18. The fall and winter menus will reflect the bounty and quality of local farms and regional suppliers.
Baritone Featured in Free Noon Concert at Schoolcraft
Baritone Stephen Lusmann, the featured artist in the November free noon concert at Schoolcraft College, will perform a wide ranging program with selections from Bach, Liszt, Skelton and Verdi. Lusmann will perform Wednesday, Nov. 8 in the Presentation Room of the VisTaTech Center.
Schoolcraft Seminar Focuses on Six Sigma Techniques
Smaller companies and service organizations can learn how to apply Six Sigma methods to improve quality and processes at a Schoolcraft College two-day seminar Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 14 and 15. The all-day sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. The fee is $300 and includes text materials.
Premier Area Craft Show Set for Nov. 11-12 at Schoolcraft College

Palestinian Expert to Speak at Schoolcraft
Fadwa Allabadi, a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Center for Arab American Studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, will speak about gender relations in Palestinian society at Schoolcraft College on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Young Conservationists Sought to Build Loon and Owl Nests
Young people between the ages of 10 and 14 who are interested in nature and conservation can help provide nesting places for loons and owls and celebrate Wildlife Conservation Day. They also will meet live owls and bats.
