Music students display talents at Collage XX on March 12

Schoolcraft College celebrates its music department with its twentieth annual Collage Concert.  Featuring all of its ensembles and several soloists, Collage XX promises to be a fast-moving, eclectic evening of music. With selections ranging from Giacomo Puccini to Tito Puente to Frank Zappa, the concert will feature something for everyone.

Collage XX is Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in Schoolcraft’s VisTaTech Center. Admission is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and $3.00 for seniors and children. Tickets are available at www.scboxoffice.com.

The Jazz Band and Improvisation Group, both under the direction of Riccardo Selva, will be performing pieces by jazz stalwarts Wayne Shorter and Wayne Henderson, as well as a jazzy version of the theme to “Sesame Street.” 

The Synthesizer Ensemble, under the direction of Barton Polot, will be performing electric versions of orchestral pieces and an original composition by student Melina Chiatalis.

The Choral Union, directed by Jonathan Drake, will be performing pieces by Jonathan Adams, Rollo Dilworth, and Leonard Cohen.

The Wind Ensemble, directed by Paul Michalsen, will be performing works by Gustav Holst and John Williams.

Featured soloists include voice student Mark Istratie, voice faculty Linda Meehen, and pianist Barton Polot.  The concert will conclude with a gala patriotic piece combining the choir and band.
