"Beyond the Motor City" video to be shown June 3

On Thursday, June 3, 2010  Schoolcraft College will host a special viewing of PBS's "Beyond the Motor City."  he 85-minute video examines how Detroit, a grim symbol of America's diminishing status in the world, may come to represent the future of transportation and progress in America.

Narrated by Miles O'Brien, the video explore Detroit's historic investments in infrastructure from the early 19th-century canals to the urban freeways that gave The Motor City its name and made America's transportation system the envy of the world.

In a journey through the neighborhoods of Detroit and beyond to Spain, California and Washington, D.C., "Beyond the Motor City" also explores our country's desire for faster, cleaner and more modern transportation.

As a part of PBS's Blueprint for America series, the video urges viewers to consider what this means for the future of America's transportation system in the 21st century.

"Beyond the Motor City" will be shown at 1:15 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center in the Presentation Room. The event is free and open to the public.
