Sign up now for Wayne County Alert System

Now that we are in the midst of severe weather season, employees and students at Schoolcraft College are reminded to register for the Wayne County Alert System. It is an easy, online registration process that will allow you to receive free emergency alerts via your mobile devices, work and home phones, text messages or email when a weather or safety emergency occurs.
The Wayne County Alert System is an enhancement to the radio and tv local and national Emergency Broadcast System. Now residents and workers in Wayne County can be contacted directly and immediately at home, work or while on the road via their personal electronic devices to better prepare and protect themselves, their families and their neighbors.
The registration process is simple, secure and free.
1. Visit https://wayne.getalerts.org/ to create a username and password by selecting ‘New User.’ If you are a resident of Wayne County you can use your home address or if you are not a resident of Wayne County, use the college’s address—18600 Haggerty Road, Livonia, MI 48152.
2. After you have established your username and password, log in to the site using that information.
3.On the User Console of the site, select ‘Device Setup’ to choose which types of messages you would like to receive. As prompted by the site, enter the appropriate information for the devices you would like to receive alerts.
4.Next, select ‘Alerts.’ Choose ‘University Alerts’ and select ‘Next’ and place a check next to ‘Schoolcraft College’ and select ‘Next’ again to receive alerts pertinent to the college and surrounding area.
5.Once you have made all your choices for alert types and messages for various devices, select ‘Finish.”
The Wayne County Alert System will be used to notify residents of natural disasters, weather emergencies, threats to security and safety of residents, chemical spills, health warnings, school closings, serious traffic situations, etc. Warnings can include those that affect the entire county or can also be narrowed to isolated neighborhoods where a fire, for example, would only affect those in the immediate area.
