PAL program uses top students as tutors

The Peer-Assisted Learning or PAL Program pairs Schoolcraft students with their instructors’ former top students as tutors, lab assistants or study group leaders. Based in the Learning Support Services Department, there are about 15 PALs available during the fall and winter semesters.

In the fall 2007 semester, PALs will be concentrated in the science classes. They might be found circulating through lab classes, helping groups of students with their experiments. They also hold structured study sessions to prepare for exams or help explain complicated processes.

Instructors praise the PAL program and say it plays a vital role in helping students master course content and increases student achievement dramatically. The student-to-student and student-to-instructor interactions result in a win-win situation for everyone.
