Classes help non-native English speakers use the language

English is reputed to be one of the most difficult languages to master. For non-native speakers of English, Schoolcraft offers English as a second language classes in both credit and noncredit formats. Students will get practice in and learn pronunciation, writing, speaking, grammar, reading and listening.

Students who are working on a degree can enroll in a series of three-credit-hour classes. The series includes: the English skills of communication, speaking and listening; grammar and basic writing; English communication; and writing and reading.

The Learning Assistance Center, in conjunction with the Continuing Education and Professional Development Department, offers an English Language Institute and an International Student Relations Club. Five 12-week classes build English skills in increments, from level one through level five. Additional classes concentrate on pronunciation and reducing accents, writing and speaking. These classes are non-credit.
