SC faculty discuss "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" February 22

This month's Pageturners book club selection is Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick. On Tuesday, February 22, 2011 several Schoolcraft College faculty members will participate in a panel discussion of the book. The panel discussion will be held at 1:30 p.m. in W210 in the Waterman Wing of the VisTaTech Center. Panelists, facilitated by Dr. Mark Huston, professor of philosophy, include Mark Harris, English; and Deborah Regner, psychology. They will also be joined by student Donna Thomas.

In addition to the Panel Discussion, Pageturners will also host a Book Discussion of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? on Monday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bradner Library and a Movie Screening of Blade Runner on Thursday, February 24 at 11 a.m. in the McDowell Center. All of these events will be held on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads. All of the events are free and open to the public. Copies of the book are available at a significant discount from the Schoolcraft College Bookstores.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is a science fiction novel first published in 1968. The book follows  follows the story of Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter of androids, while also following John Isidore, a man of sub-normal intelligence who befriends some of the androids. The plot of the book served as the foundation story of Blade Runner, the 1982 hit movie starring Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer.
