Monday, January 17, 2011 Schoolcraft College will host a variety of activities in celebration and recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

At 9:30 a.m. in Room 200 of the Liberal Arts building on the college's main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads, there will be a Festival of Short Films Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Schoolcraft College students studying film will show short films they have chosen to honor Dr. King.  After each film, a short discussion will take place.  Because of the nature of the event, individuals are encouraged to come and go as they please.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. a Poverty Simulation will be held in Room 200 in the McDowell Center in Livonia. The simulation is sponsored by the Bridging Barriers campus group.

At 11:30 a.m. in Room 200 in the Liberal Arts building an abridged version of Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North will be shown, followed by a discussion.  This documentary is based on Thomas Norman DeWolf’s Inheriting the Trade which is Pageturners Book Club selection for January 2011. At 1:30 p.m. in Room 200 in the McDowell Center there will be a Poetry Slam sponsored by the Bridging Barriers campus group. 

Throughout the day everyone is invited to visit the Art Exhibit on display in the McDowell Center as well.
