Student aims for health care career

For Mansi it’s all about helping people. “I’m studying nursing because it’s a field that gives you a chance to really help others with the realities of life,” she said. A student at Schoolcraft College since her move from India to the United States in, 2004, Mansi has been hard at work on an associate degree in nursing.

“My teachers and counselors have really helped me reach my career goals,” said Mansi. “With their help, I found that I wanted to go into a healthcare field. My time here has helped me become more intellectual. I’ve learned so much about a variety of subjects, from political science to sociology.”

Mansi will tell you that it’s the simplicity of things at Schoolcraft that she appreciates the most. “Everything is close and inter-connected here,” she said. “You can get information when you need it. And the teaching standard is excellent.”

In addition to her studies, Mansi holds two part-time jobs — one at the IKEA store in Canton and another at the circulation desk at the Schoolcraft library.

As for the future, Mansi plans to transfer to Eastern Michigan University to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing. “Maybe one day I’ll even go on to become a physician,” she said.
