Athletic head directs successful program

Sid Fox, Schoolcraft College athletic director, just saw his program come away with the Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s All-Sports Trophy for the 2006-07 season. The trophy signifies that Schoolcraft earned the highest average number of points based on the MCCAA’s system of conference champion points. Schoolcraft outranked the other 18 colleges in the MCCAA.

Since he joined Schoolcraft in 2006, Fox has worked to establish a more professional, more student-oriented department. This has involved early-bird registration for athletes; applying for and receiving a Foundation grant to help student athletes purchase textbooks; compensating referees without handling cash payments; consolidating marketing for the multiple summer camps; and hiring new personnel.

Fox has fostered a team feeling within the department, institutionalized monthly staff meetings, and maintains an open-door policy with staff and students. He has an excellent relationship with the National Junior College Athletic Association and stresses that his primary goal is to see student athletes graduate.
