Piano professor puts Schoolcraft on the music map

The concert program for the December 20 performance of L’Orchestre de Paris introduced the audience to Sanjay Mody, as one of the three piano soloists. In the first paragraph on Mody, it explained, in French, that Mody studied with Professor Donald Morelock of Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan.

Closer to home, music lovers know Morelock for the series of free noon concerts presented during the regular school year or because they may have studied with one of the many piano teachers who have completed the Schoolcraft Piano Teacher Certificate program, which he initiated. As director of the Ann Arbor Bach Association and the Michigan Music Teacher’s Association state concerto competition for 12 years, he has had a wide influence on piano students and teachers throughout the state.

Morelock’s students have gone on to study at the University of Michigan, the New England Conservatory, The Julliard School of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music. As co-director of the American-Russian Piano Institute, he organized 10 summer trips for his own students and students from across the country to study with faculty at the St. Petersburg and Moscow conservatories. His students have gone on to graduate with honors from the Moscow, St. Petersburg and Paris conservatories.
