Local author will be discussing his book on campus November 12

On Monday, November 12, 2012, John L. Titus will be at Schoolcraft College to discuss his book, Losing Alicia: A Father’s Journey after 9/11. This special Meet the Author event will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center on the college’s main campus in Livonia, Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads. The conversation and book signing are free and open to the public.
On September 11, 2001, Titus lost his daughter Alicia, a flight attendant on United Airlines Flight 175, when the plane crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. It was the second plane to hit the World Trade Center. In Losing Alicia, readers not only witness a father’s struggle over the murder of his young, vibrant and beautiful daughter, but they walk with him through his agonizing grief after one of the most horrific tragedies in history.
Titus retired from Schoolcraft College in 2009 where he had served as a counselor and assistant professor.  He now divides his time between Michigan and Ohio and is a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Since Alicia’s death, John has become a strong advocate for peace and social justice, writing articles, doing documentaries, political activism and giving talks all over the United States, Canada and Italy on these and related issues.
In addition to Titus’ visit on November 12, Pageturners will host two other discussion opportunities: Tuesday, November 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Bradner Library on the college’s main campus in Livonia and Thursday, November 15 at 4 p.m. at the Radcliff Center in Garden City.
Pageturners is Schoolcraft College’s book discussion club. Pageturners sponsors three different book selections each during the fall and winter semester and a special classic movie series in the spring and summer. In addition to traditional book discussions and author visits, Pageturners also sponsors panel discussions, movie screenings and poetry readings as appropriate. The book discussions and all Pageturners events are free and open to the public, thanks in part to a grant from the Schoolcraft College Foundation. All of the books, including Losing Alicia, are available at significant discount at the Schoolcraft College Bookstore.
