K-12 Summer Seminar for teachers and administrators will feature Dr. Anthony Muhammad
Each year Schoolcraft College’s Continuing Education and Professional Development department offers teachers, counselors and educational administrators the opportunity to engage a stimulating educational topic and earn valuable SB-CEUs in the annual K-12 Summer Seminars.
The 2012 seminar on Monday, June 18 will feature renowned educational consultant, researcher and author,
Dr. Anthony Muhammad. Dr. Muhammad will share his research on the dynamics of school culture and how developing a healthy school culture is a prerequisite to raising student achievement. Based on his bestselling book, Transforming School Culture: How to Overcome Staff Division, he will discuss complex organizational reform including building collaborative cultures, managing conflicting agendas, and overcoming staff resistance.
As a follow-up to this seminar, Alex McNeece, Director of Instructional Services for the Garden City School District will conduct an online seminar using LinkedIn to continue the discussion of Transforming School Culture from Monday, July 9 - Friday, August 3. This online course will provide an opportunity for teachers to delve more deeply into the ideas presented by Dr. Muhammad and to interact with their peers in exploring ways of implementing these ideas in their schools.
"Research indicates that the culture within any organization is directly linked to its successes. We are thrilled to have Dr. Muhammad come to Schoolcraft and conduct a seminar for area educators, especially when it relates to helping student success,” says Leslie Petty, Associate Dean for the Continuing Education and Professional Development department. “This is our second year offering these Summer Seminars and the feedback from teachers and administrators has been tremendous. Anything we can do to foster collaboration in education is beneficial to all of us.”
The K-12 Summer Seminars enable participants to explore a topic with a dynamic practitioner and explore new ideas with other educators. The seminars are designed to encourage K-12 educators to expand and deepen their understanding of the teaching and learning experience through discussion, reading, writing, reflection and scholarly activity and to take that new knowledge into their classrooms and schools. This program will benefit full and part-time teachers, counselors, school social workers and administrators in K-12 schools. Current undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue a career in K-12 are encouraged to attend. Home schooling parents and adults generally interested in education may also find these seminars valuable.
The cost to attend the seminar with Dr. Muhammad is $50 and the follow-up online class is $35. Registration is underway. For more information, visit www.schoolcraft.edu/K12 or call 734-462-4448.
