Schoolcraft College faculty members perform free concert on March 21
On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, four accomplished members of the Schoolcraft College Music Department's faculty will perform a free concert at noon in the VisTaTech Center, located on the college's main campus in Livonia, on Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile Roads.
Applied Piano instructor Stijn De Cock has been a major prize winner in multiple competitions, including the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition. DeCock graduated with highest distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels in 2004. He received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan where he is currently pursuing a doctorate of musical arts.
Paul Michalsen is director of the Wind Ensemble at Schoolcraft College. He is an educator, musician and clinician who has performed across the United States and Great Britain and is the founding director of the Plymouth Brass Ensemble, a professional performance ensemble.
Dr. Frederick Moss has taught a variety of courses at Schoolcraft College including Music for Elementary Teachers and Instrumental Music performance. He holds a doctorate in music education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and is an accomplished clarinetist who has performed on numerous solo and chamber music recitals.
Barton Polot is a versatile instructor at Schoolcraft College where he teaches music theory and ear training, electronic music composition and is responsible for the music technology program. He is a widely-known national clinician, lecturer and author on applications of technology in music education.
This concert is part of the college’s annual Free Noon Concert Series. The final performance for the series will be April 18 featuring soprano Martha Guth and pianist Jean Schneider.
