Cellist, Bagratuni, and pianist, Sun, perform for the first time at Schoolcraft on May 6

On Friday, May 6, Schoolcraft College will host Suren Bagratuni, cello, and Jen-Ru Sun, piano, during the final performance of the Friday Evening Recital Series for 2010-11. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in the VisTaTech Center and a reception will follow the performance.

Winner of the Silver Medal at the 1986 International Tchaikovsky Competition while still a student at the Moscow Conservatory, Bagratuni has gone on to a distinguished international career as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. In addition to performing throughout the former Soviet Union, he has toured worldwide, earning enthusiastic praise in both traditional and contemporary repertoire. Bagratuni currently is Artist-Teacher and Professor of cello at Michigan State University College of Music. His students occupy teaching positions in major universities and perform in orchestras throughout the U.S. and abroad. 
         
Sun began her professional training in 1990.  She completed a master’s degree at the National Taiwan Normal University in 2005, and is currently a doctoral student of Panayis Lyras at Michigan State University. She plays numerous solo piano recitals and collaborates in chamber-music concerts, including first performances of contemporary music.

The program will include Schumann's 3 Romances, Op. 94; Beethoven's Sonata No. 10 in G Major, Op. 96;  Sonata in A Major, Op. 13 by Fauré; and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28 by  Saint-Saens.
