Course Description

The development of dramatic art and practice from the beginning of the 19th century to the present stressing the evolution of the physical theatre and dramatic forms in relation to contemporaneous production facilities and innovations will be explored.

Course Competencies

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Explain the development of and practice of theatre in the 19th centuries.
  • Explain the development of theatre and practice of theatre in Modern period.
  • Explain the development of theatre and practice of theatre in Postwar period.
  • Explain the development of theatre and practice of Contemporary theatre.
  • Describe the accomplishments in each theatrical period from the 19th century to present.
  • Compare the development of theatre and its changes from the 19th century to the present.
  • Examine the innovations in each theatrical period.
  • Explore the evolution of physical theater from the 19th century to present.
  • Compare the major dramatic forms from the 19th century to present.
