Course Description
This course is designed to provide students a fundamental understanding of network security principles and implementation. A variety of activities will reinforce the technologies used and principles involved in creating a secure computer network environment.
Prerequisites
(A requirement that must be completed before taking this course.)
- CIS 171 or equivalent experience.
Course Competencies
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Identify risks, threats and mitigation procedures for computerized systems.
- Identify attacks, vulnerabilities and defenses for wired local area networks.
- Identify attacks, vulnerabilities and defenses for wireless networks.
- Identify the fundamental principles of access controls and authentication.
- Examine procedures for performing computer network security vulnerability assessments.
- Examine procedures for conducting computer and network security audits.
- Identify cryptographic protocols and other technologies for public key infrastructure.
- Identify best practices for business continuity planning.
- Identify governmental policies and legislation pertaining to computer and network security.
